When we harvest our honey, we use a screen to remove debris, pieces of wax, parts of honey comb, bits of propolis and anything else that the honeybees decide to pick up and bring back to the hive.
Most people expect a golden clear pretty honey to then keep on the table and drizzle on their breakfast oatmeal or a hot biscuit. When natural raw honey is harvested, it does not always come out clear and pretty and needs a little help from us to be picture perfect. Each hive is different and some require more screening and some not so much. When we open up the honey comb, “cappings” are in the honey and we screen it out but we never “filter” the honey as we want it to be as raw as possible.
Raw honey will always include fine particles of pollen and propolis which is part of its structure to help people with allergies and offer it’s strong immunity properties. The Dirty Honey offers a larger concentration of raw pollen, raw propolis and bits of raw beeswax to where it’s almost chunky and it is cloudy with the suspended bits of goodness. It’s not a good presentation honey but it packs a punch with its goodness! When you open the jar, there will be a thick layer of beeswax and pollen collected at the top because it is a lighter weight than honey and floats. Use a clean chopstick or spoon to blend it evenly if you like.
This is a hive to jar batch that we can offer on occasion and is most popular with our hard core all natural clients that follow a strict wellness program. It is also most sought after by those that suffer from severe allergies and autoimmune issues.
This particular honey is not to be given to pets because of the wax bits but it’s totally acceptable for people to eat and enjoy.
Keep in mind that this is a much stronger raw honey and to be used sparingly each day. A teaspoon straight from the jar is all that you would need if using it to help fight allergy symptoms or as a supplement.
We also offer naturally infused herbal honeys, creamed honey and good ole fashioned plain seasonal raw honey.
